Linux vs. Windows to Host the Site

Linus vs Windows

Most hosts will give you a choice between a Linux server and a Windows server. The type of server you need depends on the type of programming language or database you plan to use with your website. The operating system you use on your home computer will have no impact on the type of server you need to use.

Linux Hosting

If you plan to use PHP, Python, Ruby, or MYSQL on your site, Linux is the solution for you. When looking for software ready for use on your site, such as blogging platforms, content management systems, eCommerce tools, etc., many free open source options are available for Linux. While similar Windows hosted software is most likely based on licensed resources that you need to pay for.

Hosting on Linux is probably the most widely used operating system in the market. Most developers love Linux as an open source and will support PHP and MySQL well. Ana plus of all these features is that with Linux, PHP and MySQL are all FREE!

Windows Hosting

You should choose a Windows host if you plan to use ASP or ASP.NET on your site. ASP is a coding language that only relies on Windows Servers.

The ASP encoding language is very similar to an HTML file. It may contain various tabs and attributes such as XML or HTML. What makes ASP different from HTML is that the code is read through the server and executes the ASP function or script of this file.

Seeing some of the features is not much better than the other one. There are several advantages and disadvantages of both. Finding the needs of your site is the creator of your decisions. Windows or Linux can be used as per your own advantage.

However, there is a 99.9% chance that you should use LINUX hosting. Windows hosting needs are very rare and you only have to choose this option if you have a very specific reason to do so.

Some web developers use only one or the other because of the coding language they will use.
